Arienne entered the room. Her eagle flew off her shoulder and landed on the chandelier that hung over their heads. The bird squawked and looked down at everyone, watching for any signs of trouble. The hawk that also sat on the chandelier took several steps away from its newcomer.

Arienne sat down in front of all the sorceresses. Faridah handed her a cup of tea, and Arienne took it with thanks.

“This tea has a taste of bitterness, much like the bitter news that draws us together once more. Prince Edric, I have heard, has been recovering slowly.”

“Yes Arienne,” said Kiera. “He makes progress every day, but it is slow progress.”

“Arienne, this man who caused it, the dragon king, seems to be the same person who burned down my village years ago,” Corenna stated.
