Trumpets played a loud tune that appeared to resonate throughout all of Wyndhall. It was not one that Sylvia recognized, though she lived in the capital city for many years. It appeared to be something new and grander than any other song.
Dozens of these musicians lined the gate, announcing to everyone that the party was arriving in the city. The disturbance seemed to make Sylvia feel embarrassed, especially as folks began to crowd around.
“Is that really Sylvia, the Arnorian who defeated Hadron?” asked one villager.
Her face turned a color as red as the apples in the basket at her feet, as a gift.
Sylvia, the only remaining party member from Arnoria, was the one to offer the reply. She walked over to the king with her hand extended in greeting.
King Asgald saw her gesture and grabbed her arm in a handshake, squeezing her hand as hard as possible. They continued to shake for far longer than Sylvia would’ve preferred, unable to escape his tight grip.
This excerpt is about Sylvia’s return home after fighting in the War of Wrath. Her heroics are appreciated by the townspeople, who have come out to celebrate victory. Yet despite the praise, she still feels a great deal of remorse for what she experienced in the massive battles.
What does she do next? How does she deal with the pain she feels? Find out the rest of Sylvia’s story in The Forgotten Hero.
