Dax walked over to the swords on display. There were weapons of every size, from a small dagger all the way to a longsword the size of him. Who would buy something like that? It would be too heavy for anyone to carry.
“Like that? It’s for giants,” answered someone behind him.
“Giants come in here and buy swords?”
“No, they usually send letters and they get delivered.”
“Aren’t giants… They tend to be hostile to people. Isn’t that selling to your enemy?”
“Payment is payment. It doesn’t matter how you get it. If you sell to hostile giants, you also get to sell to paranoid humans. War is good for business, particularly when this is your business.”
Dax turned around to see a man at least half a foot taller than him. He was adorned in black armor from his chest down. He had a skinny head and a small chin, but he had a look of confidence about him.
“My name is Dax,” he introduced, holding out his hand.
“I am Lupin. They call me the Black King of South Haven,” he returned, without shaking hands.
Dax meets Lupin, a mysterious man with a great deal of confidence while visiting South Haven. Just upon their initial meeting seems like Lupin is a man of great power and strength. Yet the question remains. Is he a hero or is he a villain? To find out, you’ll need to start reading The Reckless Assassin.
