By the time Lucian and Dreven returned to Oakcrest, it was autumn. As the two of them entered the town, they saw red and orange everywhere from falling leaves. Kids were running around, throwing leaves at each other. One of them, perhaps three years old, was running from another but tripped. All of the kids laughed and then continued to pick up bundles of leaves and toss them into the air.
The village seemed to have recovered from the year before. People were outside, shopping and walking around. There was a sweet smell in the air. Somebody was baking pies. The sound of fiddles played all around them.
“Life moves on,” Dreven said happily.
Where I am, it’s the height of summer. I hope you have a good month. For Lucian and Dreven, it’s autumn. After a disaster strikes their small village in the Goldenwood, there are signs of recovery.
And yet, something is amiss in their home that they have not realized yet. What is it? To learn what happens next, pick up The Reckless Assassin.
