Corenna saw one of the villagers standing in the square with his foot on the back of one of the kobolds. It cried out in pain. Tears were brought to her eyes, feeling empathy for the small creature.
There was another villager, a Kelligan, sitting at a bench which seemed to share her empathy. As it screamed and whined, he spoke up.
“Hey, knock that off. I don’t want to hear that noise.”
The bully looked over at the Kelligan, not taking his foot off.
“They deserve it, coming down here and causing trouble. I’m just showing them what we stand for.”
The Kelligan stood up.
“I told you to stop,” said the Kelligan, his voice more aggressive.
He wasn’t as tall as the bully, but Corenna could feel the man’s strength. Something about him made her uncomfortable.
When Lady Corenna is a young girl, she meets a man from the Kelligan Islands in her small woodland village. She finds a tense encounter as a kobold lies in the dirt. What does the Kelligan do next and how does Corenna react?
You can find the answers in The Virgin Dragon, which you can start reading right now.
