The journey north took five days, even with the horses. They had to spend a lot of their time slowly trudging down the mountain. Snowstorms had begun to pick up again, slowing down their travel as the horses found it more difficult to trudge through the rough terrain.
They spent much of the day looking for good places to make camp, places that were not too far away from the main trails but would be able to serve as protection from the winds.
On the first night that the party was back together after the battle, none of them were able to speak. They just looked at the fire, occasionally poking it with a stick or adding another log. Nobody knew what they should say.
The environment was quiet as well due to the cold and snow. It absorbed the little sound that was being made by birds and insects braving the weather. Only the cracks of the fire prevented total silence.
Mordred and his fellow travelers have spent many days in the snowy mountains on horseback in quiet contemplation. What happens when they return from their journey? Find out by reading The Forgotten Hero.
